When do nail prosthetics make sense?
- After an injury, if part of the nail is missing
- While a nail grows back after a doctor's treatment for nail fungus has been completed
- For very short or brittle nails
- For an even look — for example before a holiday or a special occasion
How the new nail is created
First, I clean and prepare the existing nail. Then I model the missing part of the nail with a flexible gel and let it harden. I match the shape, length and surface to your other nails so the transition is barely noticeable.
The replacement nail grows out with your own nail and can be refreshed when needed — most easily as part of your regular foot care.
Requirements
Nail prosthetics are only applied to healthy, intact skin and a healthy nail bed. If there is inflammation, an open area or untreated nail fungus, I'll wait until your doctor gives the go-ahead. You can find more about caring for thick nails under thick & fungal nails.
