How a nail brace works
The brace is attached to the nail and applies a light, even pull to the edges of the nail. This lifts the ingrown edges and takes the pressure off the nail fold. With every millimetre the nail grows, the new shape becomes more stable.
Many people notice the pressure easing shortly after the brace is fitted. With the brace on, you can usually walk, shower, do sport and wear your usual shoes as normal.
Who is a nail correction brace suitable for?
- Toenails that keep growing in
- Involuted and pincer nails that curve strongly downwards
- Pain at the edges of the nail despite the right cutting technique
- Anyone looking for a gentle method with no incision
What types of brace are there?
There are adhesive braces, which are bonded to the nail as a narrow strip, and wire braces, which are hooked onto the edges of the nail and bent to fit. I choose the right system based on the shape and thickness of your nail and your symptoms — and explain the differences to you beforehand.
How long does the correction take?
That depends on how curved the nail is and how fast it grows. A brace is usually worn for several months. Roughly every four to six weeks, I check the fit, readjust it or fit a new brace. That keeps the correction gentle and even.
If the edge of the nail is currently pressing into the skin, I relieve it before fitting the brace — read more under ingrown toenail.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Fitting a nail correction brace costs from €100 and takes about 45 minutes. The price can vary depending on the system and the work involved — I'll tell you before your appointment. We'll arrange the check-ups individually.
Adhesive braces are narrow and discreet; wire braces are a little more visible. Both can easily be worn under socks and in closed shoes.
Usually you'll hardly feel a thing. If the nail fold is very sensitive, I work especially gently and take breaks if needed.
That can't be ruled out completely, especially with a naturally curved nail shape or tight shoes. But the right cutting technique, well-fitting shoes and regular foot care can lower the risk.
