Hard skin, callus, corn — what's the difference?
Hard skin is a natural protective layer. When it gets too thick, a callus forms — usually on the heel, the ball of the foot or the toes. It can feel tight, crack and press when you walk.
A corn (clavus) is a small, very firm patch of hardened skin with a core that presses inwards like a thorn. Corns typically sit on top of or between the toes — and often hurt with even light pressure.
How I work
I remove the hardened skin layer by layer, carefully, with sterile blades and a foot care device. With a corn, I take out the hard core with care and relieve the area. To finish, I care for the skin with a suitable cream.
To keep the problem from coming straight back, we look together at possible causes such as tight shoes or pressure points. If your toes are misaligned, I recommend seeing an orthopaedic specialist.
What you can do at home
- Look after hard skin regularly with a foot file — not with a callus shaver or razor blade
- Moisturise your feet daily with a urea-based foot cream
- Choose shoes with enough room and a soft footbed
- Only use acid corn plasters after getting advice — and never without a doctor's advice if you have diabetes
On its own or as part of foot care
Removing hard skin, plus up to two corns and two calluses, is already included in professional foot care. If you only have one problem area, simply book this separate service. For cracks in your heels, read more under cracked heels.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A separate session for hard skin, calluses or corns costs from €80 and takes about 30 minutes.
As long as the pressure on that spot remains, a corn can form again. Well-fitting shoes, taking the pressure off and regular foot care make all the difference.
It's usually enough to come every four to six weeks and moisturise your feet at home every day.
Gentle filing after a shower is fine. Avoid callus shavers, razor blades and scissors — it's very easy to injure your skin with them.
